O2 Academy Bristol has announced it will celebrate its 25th anniversary this November with a series of events that reflect its prominent position in the city’s live music scene. Widely considered an iconic venue, O2 Academy Bristol will open its doors for some special showcases and behind the scenes open days and panels that celebrate the past, present and future.

On Saturday 14 November, O2 Academy Bristol, in collaboration with BIMM, will come together to host a free open day. Students at BIMM and other institutions across the region are invited to see the venue as it prepares for a show and given exclusive access to see the inner workings of the venue during the day. That evening, O2 Academy Bristol will present a night that looks to the future of local talent, headlined by Entitled Sons with support from New Cut, Lara Rxse and further support to be announced.

Throughout November the venue will be highlighting the rich heritage of the venue with a photography exhibition, showcasing the work of local photographer Martin Thompson, as well as looking back at events held at the venue in the past.

Making a much-anticipated comeback in 2026, Full Cycle Sunday Special on 8 November will see the first ever clubnight held at the venue back where they belong behind the decks with a legacy lineup that will have nostalgic Drum & Bass clubbers coming out of retirement. The pioneering Bristol-based label will put a spotlight on the best in the business with sets from Roni Size, Krust, Suv, D Product, Kit alongside special guests Kenny Dope and Craze, hosted by Dynamite MC and Tali plus many more.

One of Bristol’s leading venues, O2 Academy Bristol’s history stretches back to November 1966, when the building opened as the ABC cinema as part of a huge entertainment hub called The New Bristol Centre. It was also known as the ‘Rock’, Bristol’s super-club, for a short period before the venue was brought by Academy Music Group (AMG) in 2001 and opened with a legendary night headlined by Ocean Colour Scene and an array of artists followed them on to the stage including Gorillaz, Ian Brown, Faithless and DJ Shadow.

The venue has continued to be a pillar of Bristol and the South West’s music ecosystem, as well as nurturing new talent in its smaller space, O2 Academy2. O2 Academy Bristol is also an integral part of the local music scene, staging artists as part of the annual Dot To Dot Festival and in 2024 Bristol’s IDLES played an exclusive benefit concert at the venue in aid of War Child.

The venues programme is always varied and highlights some of the biggest touring artist alongside those growing artists about to break. October and November is no exception featuring shows from, Fat Dog, Yaelokre, Jalen Ngonda, Transvision Vamp, The Fray, Tinie Tempah, Bleachers and James Blake. See the venues website for full listings for more details.

Andy Heath, General Manager, said: “O2 Academy Bristol is such an important venue in the city, feeding bands into the larger venues and bringing artists up to play their all-important gigs in the mid-level stage of their career. Our building has hosted some incredible names over the years, and you only have to look at the autumn / winter programme to see some of the best artists around playing multiple nights and sold out shows here, reflecting the appetite of music fans to witness stand-out performances on our stage. Celebrating 25 years of this venue is an important milestone, and we really can’t wait to look back at what we’ve achieved and to the future of O2 Academy Bristol in a city we love.”

2026 also saw the venue transformed with a significant acoustic upgrade, as its steel frameworks, metal barriers and upper-level walkways were treated with over 80 custom-manufactured panels, which has enhanced the entire experience for both artist and audience.

Over two and half decades of O2 Academy Bristol has seen memorable performances from both homegrown and international acts, including Massive Attack, Roni Size, Raye, Kasabian, LCD Soundsystem, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Olivia Dean, CMAT, Amyl and the Sniffers, Olivia Dean, Protoje, Teddy Swims, Blossoms and many more.
