John Otway’s first gig was in Aylesbury in 1972 and 50 years later he is due to clock up his 5,000th show. Otway is an English singer-songwriter who has built a sizeable cult following through ceaseless touring, a surreal sense of humour and a self-deprecating underdog persona.
He first achieved micro-stardom with a memorable appearance on the Old Grey Whistle Test and a hit record in 1977. 25 years later he had another hit when ‘Bunsen Burner’ entered the top Ten in 2002. However, it is his live shows that have kept the fans coming and this micro-star shining for half a century - leading to this celebration of what is an incredible milestone.
