With so many huge acts in and out of our doors, it’s easy to forget those that are out there, tirelessly working their way up to the top who deserve your attention. This week, we’re putting the spotlight on London's stunning songstress, Freya Ridings.
For Fans Of: Banks, London Grammar, Lewis Capaldi
Essential Listening: ‘Ultraviolet’ and ‘Lost Without You’
You know those moments when you hear a voice so pure and so beautiful it stops you in your tracks? Whether you’re listening to a new music playlist, or hear a song on the TV and the only thing you can do is stop and listen? That’s what happens when you hear the utterly stunning vocals of Freya Ridings.
Hailing from London, Freya is the red-haired singer-songwriter that’s buckling hearts with every note she sings. Every melody she writes is performed with elegance, tickling the piano keys as her deep and soulful tone soars and her emotional lyrics send a shiver up your spine. Whether you listen to her music on record or live, it’ll whisk you away into your own personal dreamland.
Despite only releasing her debut single in May last year, she’s gained an overwhelming social following and has gradually seen her streaming numbers head into the millions and beyond. She’s picked up a few famous followers as well, with James Blunt and Tears For Fears both picking her as support at their live shows and BBC Radio 1, Capital and an endless list of magazines praising her name.
With just four official singles, Freya has managed to sell out four headline shows in London within a year and at the rate things are going currently, it looks like her upcoming tour is going to follow-suit. This may, or may not be helped by a certain TV show which took over everyone’s lives this summer. Yes, love it or hate it, Love Island made some impeccable music choices this year and Freya had the honour of soundtracking not one, not two but three drama-filled, tear-jerking moments on the show. ‘Lost Without You’ in particular grabbed viewers’ attention, with it becoming the most Shazamed ITV2 track, ever.
New single, ‘Ultraviolet’ is following closely behind, with High Contrast creating an Ibiza-ready remix of the ballad, making it accessible to everyone from ravers to romantics. In less than two months it’s racked up over 800,000 streams and has firmly established Freya as one of the standout voices of 2018. With so much more to come, the next 12 months are likely to be some of the most important of her career.
There's only one way to truly experience Freya's voice and that's live, so grab your tickets to her headline tour now!
