An Interview with Fireball's Hottest Band 2018, Lost In Stereo

Posted: Monday 18 December 2017

Fireball gave hopeful bands from across the UK the chance to play their hometown venues in the hope of becoming Fireball's Hottest Band of 2018 - all while standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the biggest names in punk and ska.

Having claimed the prestigious title for themselves, Glaswegian pop punks Lost In Stereo spoke to us about playing with Reel Big Fish, prepping for the final and celebrating the win.

Congratulations are in order! How do you feel about taking the title of Fireball’s Hottest Band 2018 and did you expect the win?

"We never expected to win, but it's a dream come true for us. Playing alongside Reel Big Fish and Anti-Flag this year was such an incredible moment in our lives that's given us a taste of what might be right around the corner."

How much preparation went into getting yourselves ready to play in front of your home crowd?

"A ridiculous amount. We were so terrified of screwing anything up that we spent several consecutive nights practising till the small hours, and it paid off thankfully."

Hearing you’ve won must have been such an incredible moment, how did you celebrate?

"We drank and we danced."

If you had to highlight one moment, apart from winning, what would it be?

"It all started off as somewhat of a dream for us, but as the date drew closer our nerves really started to kick in. We all remember looking up at the stage during sound check, watching bands play snippets of songs in total awe and panic as the realisation set in that we were also going to be up there. It's the type of feeling you get just before skydiving - panic followed by a rush of adrenaline. "

Sharing the stage with Sweet Little Machine, Mad Caddies, Anti-Flag and Reel Big Fish is the stuff of dreams for many bands. Were you daunted by the magnitude of the line up at all?

"When we arrived at the venue during Mad Caddies' soundcheck, we were amazed at how big the place was and how many bands we've seen there and thought, it's mental that we would be playing O2 Academy Glasgow in a couple hours. We weren’t daunted as such, we just thought 'let’s do this lads, this is the start, let's smash it'."

Finally, do you have any words of advice for future entrants?

"Practice your ass off and hit us up when you play in Glasgow. Most importantly, make sure to indulge in every second of it because win or lose, you've managed to take that step and nobody can take that away from you, just go out and give it your best shot. To quote one of our songs, 'Don’t f**k about, your time is now'."
