For Fans Of: Sigrid, Maggie Rogers, Nina Nesbitt
Essential Listening: 'You Say' and 'Crazy Kind'

When you’re a teenager living on a tiny island, there isn’t all that much to do to pass the time, so for a young Sarah Close, learning to play the guitar and setting up a YouTube channel seemed to be a good thing to do. Tucked away in her room, in her family home on the Isle Of Wight, she watched her online fanbase grow, from 100, to 10,000 and to now, 700,000+ subscribers.

Connecting with her viewers on a real level, she won people over by being honest and true to herself. She wanted to show that not everything in life is perfect and she conveyed that through both her videos and songs, whilst her spritely personality and cheeky sense of humour had everyone begging to be her best friend.

With a solid following behind her, she moved to London aged 18, began a song-writing course and poured everything into her music. Despite posting regular covers, fans were desperate for original material and in 2017 came, ‘Call Me Out’, a dark and dreamy anthem that established Sarah as an exciting new face in pop music. Shortly after came her debut EP, Caught Up, filled with more delicious songs that fused together Sarah’s raw writing style with synth-pop melodies and thrust her towards the music career she’d always dreamed of.

Despite a brief fling with a major label, Sarah decided to remain an independent artist, showcasing the power and self-belief she’s had ever since she first started penning tracks. Setting up her own label, The Kodak Club, she’s since been working with an incredible team of writers to find her true sound and be the singer she always knew she was destined to be.

Last year she gave the world the fiery and empowering anthem, ‘You Say’, which received praise across the board from The Evening Standard, CLASH magazine, Popjustice and many more. It also took her out on the road, selling out venues across the UK, including her second ever headline London show. The single was then followed by the hazy ode to Barcelona, ‘Crazy Kind’. Written about a spontaneous trip to the city, it’s an adventurous and captivating track and you can almost feel the bright Barcelona sun on your face when you listen.

And here we are in 2019. Sure, we have plenty of female pop singers on the scene right now, but there’s definitely room for Sarah Close amongst them. With her newly released single, ‘London’ and a huge headline show ahead of her, it looks like it won’t be long before she’s dominating playlists worldwide. So if you like the care-free sounds of Sigrid, the sassiness of Dua Lipa and the gentleness of Gabrielle Aplin, then Sarah Close is going to be your new favourite obsession. Don’t believe us? Come and see her for yourself at the end of the month.
