Meet Liverpool's Big Bambora

Posted: Friday 31 March 2017

Beating the competition in the Liverpool heats are rockers, Big Bambora Scuzz TV presenter and journalist, Matt Stocks caught up with them to talk about how the band started, The Pogues and what we can expect to see from them at The Pogues Irish Whiskey Presents: A Shot at Discovery – The Final on Thursday 27 April.

What band made you want to start a band?

The Endeavours, which was our older band before we emerged as Big Bambora. Everyone who’s in our band currently has been influenced by that band.”

How would you describe Big Bambora to someone who’s never heard you before?

Indie rock, which appeals to all ages. We’ve been influenced by multiple older and newer age bands.”

What can we expect from your set at the final?

We’ve picked three of our strongest songs to play, and we’ll give our best on stage. Crowd participation will be a big part of it too, and we’re bringing a big tsunami of folks with us. So hopefully we can make a party out of our small set.

How will you celebrate if you win?

Unless we get offered a Penthouse suite in the centre of London with champagne, then it’ll probably consist of a coach trip home, but as soon as we get back there’s no reason why we can’t stay up and celebrate because everyone has booked the next day off work. So we’re going to party with family and friends either way.

Well good luck. The final question has to be, what’s your favourite song by The Pogues?

My favourite one is Dirty Old Town. It’s probably one of the more typical ones to pick, but I’ve been playing it for a number of years now acoustically in pubs and small venues, and that’s a classic song for me. We all relate to the song coming from a small town outside of Liverpool, too.”
