Meet Newcastle's Many Moons

Posted: Friday 31 March 2017

Beating the competition in the Newcastle heats are Many Moons. Scuzz TV presenter and journalist, Matt Stocks caught up with them to talk about how the band started, The Pogues and what we can expect to see from them at The Pogues Irish Whiskey Presents: A Shot at Discovery – The Final on Thursday 27 April.

What band made you want to start a band?

The band was started by myself, and one of my biggest inspirations was City And Colour – that’s Dallas Green from Alexisonfire. I went to see one of his shows and thought, ‘I want to do that.’ So I started doing it from there.

How would you describe Many Moons to someone who’s never heard you before?

That’s the most difficult question ever to be asked. I think well-rounded songs that sound like you’ve heard them before after hearing them once, with tight harmonies that entice you into wanting to hear more. And a lot of energy as well.”

What can we expect from your set at the final?

You can expect a lot of energy for a start. It’s upbeat and poppy, and it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s going to be the first time that a lot of people have seen us, so we’re going to make sure that our standard of playing is really tight and really high. I know people will be impressed with what we have to bring because we’ve worked really hard.”

How will you celebrate if you win?

We’ll drink a whole crate of The Pogues Irish Whiskey on stage in front of everyone, and invite them to get involved as well. And after that we’ll crack on with recording that music and getting it released. We want to get things going straight away.”

Well good luck. The final question has to be, what’s your favourite song by The Pogues?

“It’s not actually written by them, but my favourite song by The Pogues would be Dirty Old Town. That’s one of my all-time favourite Irish songs – and it’s not even Irish.
