Following Glasgow’s Star Shaped Festival debut last year, you asked, so it's returned for 2018! With a line-up boasting renowned and well-loved Britpop acts, this live music marathon will recreate the euphoria of the mid-90s and celebrate everything that’s great about the genre. Here's a closer look at this year's line-up.
Echobelly vocalist and songwriter Sonya Madan was one of the figureheads of the Britpop movement and spearheaded Echobelly to two Top 10 albums and five Top 40 singles. In 2017 they released their first album in 11 years, with Anarchy And Alchemy being welcomed with critical acclaim. Reinvigorated after a long hiatus and after a handful of headline performances last year, Echobelly are set to impress at Start Shaped Festival.
Returning from hibernation for Star Shaped Festival are Glaswegian guitar band, The Supernaturals. Initially signed by the man who discovered Blur, the band went on to release a handful of Top 40 hits and were nominated for the prestigious Ivor Novello Award in 1998 for their song, ‘Smile’. Having last released a full-length album in 2015, their performance is going to be a welcomed return to music for the band, so don’t miss out on their set.
THE REAL PEOPLE
Former tour friends with Ocean Colour Scene, The Real People have also shared the stage with David Bowie, The Pixies and many more in the past, and now they’re bringing their thrilling live show to O2 Academy Brixton. Named by Liam Gallagher as one of his favourite bands and an inspiration for Oasis’ sound, The Real People were true groundbreakers in developing the Britpop scene of the nineties and we can’t wait to see the idol’s in action.
MY LIFE STORY
Renowned for their 1995 debut album, Mornington Crescent, My Life Story blossomed during the Britpop era. The band shared the stage with the likes of Blur, Pulp and Oasis and they went down a storm at last year's Star Shaped Festival, now it's time for round two.
Manchester's Norther Uproar drew praise from NME, Melody Maker and many labels for their energetic live performances back in the early nineties. After five albums, a handful of UK Top 40 singles and a little time away, they're back and they're ready to show Glasgow what it is we've missed about them.
