There aren’t many things better than discovering a new artist whose music you instantly connect with. This week, we’re introducing you to YouTube star turned singer-songwriter, Alex Aiono.

For Fans Of: Ed Sheeran, The Vamps, Justin Bieber
Essential Listening: 'Her' and 'As You Need'

If you’re looking to discover the next biggest popstar, YouTube is the place to look. It’s where Justin Bieber caught the eye of Usher, where Dua Lipa began to get her voice heard as a young artist and is where many musicians these days can flaunt their talents to millions of people around the world. One singer who’ll soon be added to the list of internet successes is Alex Aiono, the Arizona born, LA raised singer who’s catapulted himself into the spotlight through his online channels, most notably for his version of Drake’s ‘One Dance’.

Despite having a flourishing fanbase online, it was actually out on the streets where Alex was first spotted, discovered whilst busking on Santa Monica promenade at the age of 15. His sweet and soulful vocals instantly grab your attention and are simply made for layering on top of the freshest pop melodies, so it’s not surprise that following the chance discovery, he found himself in the studio writing alongside John Legend. That session lead to Legend penning the title track of Alex’s independently released debut EP, Young & Foolish and things haven’t really slowed down since then.

Now 23, Alex’s YouTube following has swelled to 5.9 million subscribers and his production levels have massively stepped up, roping in some of the hottest rising talents to join him in creating his covers and mashups. On top of that, he continues to release his own original material, like the gentle acoustic ballad of 2018, ‘As You Need’ and recent electro-bop, ‘Her’, with the promise of more new music to come throughout 2019.

Alex will also make his return to the UK in May for The Fun23 Tour, this time stepping up from O2 Academy2 Islington to the main room, further proving how far he’s come in less than two years.

The shows will see him team up with Mongolian performance artist, Canion Shijirbat (Mongolia’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent), to truly deliver an experience of a lifetime, as Canion will help create an innovative and interactive LED light display, which will complement each song in Alex’s set perfectly. If that doesn’t show the dedication and passion that Alex has for his music and live performances, then we don’t know what will. Always one step ahead of the curve, Alex is destined for huge things and he has the creativity and talent to make it to the top, so make sure you catch him at these intimate live dates before things truly explode for the star.
